Yesterday night at Trevi (Umbria, Italy), José Antonio Escobar, the outstanding Chilean guitarist, gave the first public performance of my “Sonatina de Valparaíso”, a work in three movements which I composed for and dedicated to him. Regrettably, due to my state of a convalescent, I could not attend such an event, but some recordings kindly forwarded to me by listeners who were in the hall allowed me to appreciate José Antonio’s interpretation, a model of clarity, expression and power. Reports coming from the hall refer to a very warm reception of the listeners, a few hundreds – mainly young – guitarists who are at Trevi for the Italian guitar campus. I feel grateful to José Antonio and I thank him very much for the care he gives to my music.
